When Cetera Services moved into its downtown office atop the historic Falls Center in April 2024, we loved looking out our arched window for a peek at bands warming up on the Levitt stage or construction crews completing work on The Steel District.
The constant bustle of activity has been incredible for the growing uptown stretch of Phillips Avenue, and we also took great comfort knowing that the giant metal letters of the iconic Sioux Steel Company sign topping the company’s circa-1920 building have been watching over the neighborhood for more than a century.
So imagine our surprise in late summer when 10 of the 38 letters mysteriously went missing, leaving just “THE ————— CO.” on the first line and “- SIOUX – SHEET STEEL PRODUCTS” on the second. Suddenly, our view switched to a yet-to-be-solved Wheel of Fortune puzzle.
We tapped our sources and quickly learned the missing letters were headed to the new Steel District complex, and a recent stroll to that now-finished property revealed bright-yellow letters getting a second life in the Canopy Hotel’s fabulous new event space. But we still were looking out our window at partially removed signage.
I’m excited to announce that today — a year since we moved into this office — our view is being made whole. Crews began installing new steel letters this morning, and I excitedly ran over to record some video of the occasion. Enjoy!
